Openings for the Beginner

An Opening Repertoire for the Beginning Player First of all: The Beginning players should not memorize openings I think that is an obvious way to get bored with chess. I tried to learn some chess as a kid but I soon got discouraged from studying openings. So, what is the point of this post? I think many new players feel uneasy during the opening phase I might appreciate the news that:

1. All standard Openings are OK
2. Basic principles (safety and development) will get you into a playable middle game

Well, Should the Beginning player just go with “e5” and “d5”? Probably a good idea (comments appreciated). Here is a repertoire suggested by S. Evan Kreider:

"As White"

1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 ("Vienna Game")

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 ("Advance French")

1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5 ("Short-Nunn Attack")

1. e4 c5, 2. Nc3 Nc6, 3. f4 g6, 4. Nf3 Bg7, 5. Bb5 ("Sicilian Grand Prix Attack")

"As Black"

1. e4 d5, 2. exd5 Nf6, 3. d4 Bg4, 4. Be2 Bxe2+, 5. Qxe2 Qxd5 ("Scandinavian")

1. d4 f5 ("Leningrad Dutch.")

1. "Other" f5
