Eugenio Torre, born in 1951 in the Philippines, was one of the top Grandmasters in the world in the 1980s, ranked #40 in the world. He was Asia's first grandmaster, being awarded the title by FIDE in 1974. He played in the Candidates matches and was one of the rare players to defeat Anatoly Karpov when he was world champion.
He became a good friend of Bobby Fischer and was his official second in 1992 when Fischer played Spassky in their rematch. In 1989, I invited him to the Palo Alto Chess Club, where he conducted a 20-board simultaneous exhibition. He won all his games. Here is my loss to him where he allowed me to take a pawn, then pretty well finished me off with better development and more active pieces.
